Introducing The World’s Most Comfortable Guitar Strap!

I was talking to a friend at NAMM last year about how his heavy Les Paul was hurting his neck and shoulder during his performances; playing 3 hours a night for 4 nights a week. He described it as bearable but the thing that really annoyed him was the fact that his vinyl strap was seriously uncomfortable. This wasn’t the first time we’ve heard a complaint or two about comfort during a 20 minute rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Moby Dick so we decided to create a superior and ultra comfortable guitar strap.

Merino Wool Guitar Strap
Merino Wool Guitar Strap
Introducing the Merino Wool Guitar Strap from Reunion Blues. This delightful companion is made of Merino Wool, one of the softest materials we could find just short of having your roadie (Francis) encapsulate you in pillows while you play! It’s also natural fiber, biodegradable and is trimmed with full grain leather. The straps are selling very well (will we sell out of inventory? who knows!) Anyway, we saved a special reserve for you, talented reader, just by leaving a comment below of why you might want one of these straps for yourself. So go for it! Free straps to the first 40 commenters!

Best,

John Maher

Hi. I’ve just happened on your site from The Consumerist.

I’d like one of these straps as my Yamaha gets somewhat heavy when I practice my riffs (when I get time to).

    Great site BTW!

So, I heard a rumor (from the Consumerist, http://consumerist.com) that the first 40 people to comment on this blog get a free guitar strap. Am I one of the first 40?

Anyway, the strap looks really, really nice!

Why I might want one? Besides the intriguing possibility of being able to feel like I am encapulated in pillows while everyone else thinks I’m walking around like everyon else….I’d like to have one for my 12 year old nephew who has taken up the guitar. He’s on YouTube but I will refrain from linking to it here without his permission!

The world need great guitar straps!- well guitars do anyways.
Some leather straps are too stiff, and might cut the side of you neck/collarbone. Some nylon straps won’t support a neck heavy guitar.

I look forward to trying one of the new merino wool straps.

I’m not yet good enough to play Moby Dick but I know how much a good guitar strap helps. I just recently started practicing at home standing rather than sitting with my bass as I always had, and it wears on your shoulder. I would love to have such a comfortable looking strap to practice with!

I’ve tried nylon. I’ve tried leather. Never wool. Not sure how it feels. I had actually cut off the padding from backpacks straps and stuck them behind the strap just to see if it makes a difference. Anyway, can’t wait to see if the Merino Wool Guitar Strap will make a difference. Thanks to Consumerist for the heads up.

  • Curtis says:

If there’s one accessory I’ve never been happy with, it’s a guitar strap. I can never find a comfortable one that looks decent. Nylon?? Cuts my shoulder. Leather?? I find leather too heavy. Hello Kitty?? I ain’t Lisa Loeb =P

From your description and reviews Merino’s strap looks promising. Merino’s strap looks like the one I’ve been looking to replace all my straps. My crappy ones I can give to my friends. They can use them for Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

    -Curtis.

  • Jack says:

I wouldn’t say I play as much your buddy at NAMM but I’ve always had 2 major problems with any strap I’ve ever tried. #1: They are seriously irritating especially when you get a little sweaty. #2: Sometimes if I’m moving around a lot the vinyl straps pinch the skin on my shoulders. Not a huge deal but it seems like the wool strap might just alleviate both of those problems. Seems like a pretty cool product.

    October 9, 2008 at 8:31 am
  • Chris says:

That sounds really nice actually. The wool likely won’t dig into my big ol’ meaty shoulder nearly as much as vinyl does.

Thanks to the Consumerist for pointing me this way!

I’ve been playing the guitar on and off for a few years, but I’m finally in the swing of practicing and improving. That said, I don’t have a guitar strap, and it would be sort of nice to have one so my dreadnought isn’t constantly jabbing my ribs as I’m sitting. And comfortable you say? Well that’d just be the icing on the cake!

That strap looks badass, and comfortable? The strap that came with my fender is falling apart, uncomfortable, and looks horrible. A Merino wool strap looks business class. which is exactly what I want my music to be: business class. hook me up? please? btw, consumerist.com led me to you.

    thanks.

I definitely would love to give this a try. Vinyl or leather straps are just weird if you are bumming around the house and play without a shirt on, and they easily get hung up on your shirt if you’re wearing one.

This looks very nice in the pics.

The synthetic ones I use now are very stiff – even after a year of use and just don’t really flex around properly. It could be the low quality materials on them though. I have a cheapo leather strap which lacks in terms of being adjustable. I can only adjust it in 2 inch increments and of course, I can’t re-adjust it depending on how I want to play.

I am going to be at Winter NAMM in January 09 displaying our percussion products and the new guitar line we have introduced to the US. I think that some our guitars would look even more handsome whilst adorning this fine strap, or two…

I have been using the same, cliched black strap for the last few years and while it has a pretty decent shoulder grooze worn into it, it is also wearing into my neck. Might be time to upgrade…

  • Andrew Stone says:

I would love one of these so that I can give my son my old strap, he’s two and he’s already trying to steal it for his guitar (yes, he really has a real one), and then we can both play for hours.

    October 9, 2008 at 8:47 am

Saw this on Consumerist, and the timing is excellent. I’m considering getting back into playing after a long lull, and the 10-11 pound chunk of wood that I love can be fairly wearing on my shoulder. I have a decent padded strap but I would love to try one that’s comfortable and feels more solid and secure.

I was directed here by the consumerist…

While I may have stopped by for the guitar strap promo (seriously, a good, free guitar strap? How could I pass up? I’ve been living off my cheap and crappy nylon one for far too long!), I really enjoyed the article about busking. I’ve yet to fully commit to actually go out onto the streets and play, but as soon as I get a bit a more confident about my playing and my voice, I’ll make the trek.

  • Randy Rose says:

Well, as a bass player, I often stand on stage with the heaviest instrument in the band! I have a great looking strap I use most often, but it is made of that tough nylon material that offers little movement, and quite frankly, can really start to dig into the shoulder muscle (not that there is any muscle in my shoulders, anyway!) The black and white stripes of the Merino Wool strap would look very sharp with my black and white American Fender Jazz bass… just sayin’.

These straps sound like they could be really good. They say they’re more comfortable than vinyl and good for extensive playing…should be a nice compliment to long sets with my big heavy 6 string bass. And I get one for free?? Shizam! I’ll leave a review after I try it out!

Interesting and long overdue idea. I have cut down on playing due to a host of back and arm problems (degenerative disk disease in my back, osteoarthritis in my hips and cubital/carpal tunnel in both arms). This may make it possible to pick it up again! Kudos!

About time somebody decided to engineer a guitar strap for comfort and looks. Most straps are designed by fashionistas thus the masochist feel and the comfortable straps butt ugly. So I repeat my refrain of it’s about time someone engineered a comfortable, good looking and reasonablely priced strap!

As a fan of heavy Gibson guitars, I have been searching for a good strap for a long time. This strap looks like it may be the solution I have been looking for.

So did I read this correctly? Are you really giving away free straps just for leaving a comment here?

I play upright bass in my current band, so I haven’t used a strap in a while, but my P-Bass I play in church on Sundays gets heavy after a few songs. This looks better than the cheapo straps I normally use! Although the Francis+Pillows idea sounds good too.

    Found you on the consumerist

(saw your other article below) So as far as the strap goes, I would love to surprise him with one for his new axe we’re getting him for Christmas :)

I’ll definately keep you on my blogroll!

in my 30+ years of playing guitar standing up, i’ve tried everything up to and including the pillow encapsulation trick to ease the weight of hanging my guitar off of one shoulder. Bikram yoga is the only thing that has done anything to correct the pain in my back. could a Reunion Blues strap be what i’ve been missing? I would say yes if they are anywhere near the quality of the Reunion Blues gig bag i own.

  • Kevin Quang says:

Guitar straps have always killed my shoulder after about 30 minutes of playing while standing up. I’m anxious to give this one a try since it’s made out of soft material instead of nylon or leather.

That’s a solid looking guitar strap. The stitching around the little button hole is a nice touch, that’s where mine always start to wear.

O Rly? I play a LP and can admit that at times it does feel like my cross to bear. Anything that could make it a bit more comfortable (and less of a strain on the shoulder/neck) would be well appreciated.

On a side note I got directed here by Consumerist.com Seems like you’ve gotten their attention with this post.

Why do I want one? Well, truth be told I’m a bit of a wimp, and even a relatively light baja tele starts to hurt my shoulder after an hour or so.

I know I’m not one of the first 40 and won’t be getting a free strap, but it does look very nice. One thing though… it’d be nice if you’d put a link for where to buy one in the blog post. I did some searching and found it on Musician’s Friend. From the comments it seems like a lot of people would be interested in buying the strap and it’d make it a lot easier for them to do so if there were a few links to some of your online dealers. I’m sure they would appreciate it too! Otherwise, good post!!

    @Jeff,
    Hello Jeff
You are correct about including a link to our dealer locator in the future! We are in the process of creating a new Reunion Blues web site that will allow us to link you directly but, for now, you can do the following:
Click on “Dealers & Service” at the bottom of our home page. Then click on either “Buy Online” or on “Find Your Dealer” …and you’re there.
    Thanks for asking!

  • Rich R says:

Was informed of this via the Consumerist (wwww.consumerist.com). I was on guitar-playing hiatus for about 20 yrs. and recently returned. I bought an Epiphone Les Paul. After about 2 weeks of “catching up remembering” (relearning – intensely) I really did develop a pinched nerve. Required rest and pain meds. I’m back into it now and I think your strap could help mitigate the chances of another pinched nerve because it would allow me to play more comfortably and more relaxed.

If I don’t win one, I”ll likely seek one out to buy!
    Thanks!

Wow! Thank you very much! The strap is very comfortable, and makes my 10 lb. les paul bearable to play! Plus, it is exceedingly sharp looking! I’ll be ordering more of ‘em! :)

  • Bart says:

Well, I bought one at Guitar Center for $44 bucks. I like the feel of the wool and the overall fit and finish is excellent.

One problem I have is I can’t seem to get enough it short enough. I’m 5’10″ and have a strat. I’m needing about 3″ to be just right for me.

    February 18, 2009 at 9:13 pm
  • John says:

Hello Bart – I’m just a piano player so I tapped our in-house guitar gurus to put the strap through the paces by making it as short as possible, and then attaching it to a regular Strat-style guitar. When I hang it around my neck, it’s REALLY too high so let’s do this… – What is the length, end-to-end, of your strap when you adjust it to be as short as possible?
