Thanks for the kind words Mr. Hornung (above) and hello to all!
So it begins. The new John Mayall band assembled for the first time together in Los Angeles in mid March for two quick rehearsals before it’s debut performance at the Cerritos Center for The Performing Arts to a resounding standing ovation. Then, immediately the next morning into the studio to record the new Mayall CD, due to be released sometime in the fall of 2009. Everyone in the band is a tremendous player and each contributed greatly to the project. Mr. Mayall himself seemed particularly inspired, and was composing brand new songs daily as the sessions were in progress, each of which turned into outstanding works that found their way onto the record. It was really awesome to watch a true musical icon at work and I am very proud to have been a part of this magical process.
After the last day of sessions we boarded a plane to Minnesota for a successful engagement at a Blues Festival, our second gig together as a young band. We are now poised to headline the New Orleans Jazz Fest and a huge festival in Memphis before we launch our way throughout Europe over the next three months! Pretty exciting stuff, and I’m’ sure that John Mayall fans will enjoy the new band ‘cause it is smoking!
That’s a brief peek at the beginning of this project and I will talk to you in the near future from some far off land. I hope to see some of you at a show in the near future. – Greg

Seen ya’ll at Jazz Fest, great show. I’ve seen Mayall about 15 times in New Orleans since the early eighties. You are in the same group as Larry Taylor, and in my book that says it all. Good luck on the Euro’ tour.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Just enjoyed your gig with John Mayall at Wembley in London supporting BB King. It was great to see the 83 year old in such fine form but you blew his bass player off the stage as far as I was concerned! Very funky with some nice little speedy triplets but not overdone like Mark King.
What were you using? It looked like a 5 string, maybe a Warwick?, going through a Gallien Kruger rig?? Very clean and balanced sound. Nice solid bass but enough top for the slapping to come through. Brilliant!

I had the great pleasure of seeing Greg play bass with Buddy Guy at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in 1993 and he laid down the BEST bass guitar solo I have EVER seen and I’ve watched the best there is in my time of concert attending. Greg isn’t just a baddass bassist but gifted with tons of feeling too which makes him the perfect all round and complete bassist there is, in my humble opinion.

Wow! We saw you at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester… Fantastic! I have never, ever seen a bass player like you. Amazing. We took your cd home to show my son who has just started playing bass and you’ve really inspired him with your unique style. He’s more into rock but now wants to play the blues! Good to talk to you at the end of the gig, too, and thanks for wishing my son a happy birthday. He’s been watching clips of you on you tube, but would love to see you play some day like we did :)
